A relay drive is an essential component in many electrical systems, serving as an interface between a control circuit and a power circuit. What is a Relay Drive? At its core, a relay drive consists of an electromagnetic relay that is activated by a small electrical signal, usually provided by a microcontroller or another control device. When the control signal energizes the relay, it closes or opens contacts, allowing power to flow to a connected load. This makes it possible to control large electrical systems without directly handling high voltages or currents. The relay itself consists of a coil, an armature, and one or more sets of contacts. When an electric current passes through the coil, it generates a magnetic field, which attracts the armature and causes the contacts to either close or open.
